Remembering the Earthquake: 10 Year Anniversary

On January 12, 2010, a 7.0 earthquake shook the country of Haiti. It is recorded as one of the deadliest natural disasters in history with an estimated 316,000 deaths (total population of Haiti in 2009 was 10 million). An additional 1.5 million instantly became homeless as buildings across the country were reduced to rubble. Board Member Brooke James worked as …

Daphne’s Reunification

In August Daphne was reunified with her sister as a result of our Family Hope program!  We believe an orphanage cannot replace the love and belonging that children find in safe and nourishing homes, which is why we are overjoyed when children can return to their families’ homes.  Daphne came to Child Hope in 2007, as her mother was not …

UN calls for the end of orphanages

On 18 December 2019, the UN General Assembly in New York adopted a Resolution on the Rights of The Child that signifies a major milestone in ending the institutional care of children globally. By adopting the Resolution, all of the 193 member states of the United Nations have agreed, for the first time in history, that orphanages harm children and, recognizing that the vast majority of children in orphanages have living family, all children should be reunited with or supported to remain with their families.

FisT focuses on working with children who experience difficulties in their interpersonal relationships. Often these children struggle with expressing their feelings, in particular anger, sadness and frustration. The program assists them in identifying their anger triggers and provides them with …

Protests Intensify

The people of Haiti have been protesting for over a year.  The central issue is corruption –  $2 billion of foreign aid that was misused, misappropriated, or embezzled by government officials.  Other issues like a fuel crisis and inflation of the Gourde are byproducts of the corruption.  Schools and businesses have been closed, roadblocks made from burning tires have halted …
