Hurricane Matthew Update #2
First of all, thank you all so much for all that you have given toward the effort to help the people of Haiti during this devastating time. We will do our best to give you timely updates and pictures as we are able!
As we learned first-hand from a recent assessment trip to the southern peninsula, the damage is unbelievable and the needs are unending. We have been able help support recent relief trips led by local pastors who desire to help meet the needs of individuals and churches in these hard-hit areas. On one of these trips, a Child Hope staff member was able to join the team and check on specific families that we have a relationship with. The small group was able to distribute some supplies to meet immediate needs and gain insight on how to further help these families. It was an important trip and we are thankful to have been a part of it.
Housing repairs begin this week! Many of our staff members have family with homes severely affected by Hurricane Matthew and the subsequent rains that have continued to pour down. Both locally and on the southern peninsula, some of these construction and repair projects are now underway!
Joel, our children’s home director, and his wife have family living in Jacmel, a city in the south of Haiti. His mother-in-law’s home was completely swept away by the rising, rushing waters that came through this coastal town. Because of your donations, construction on her new home has begun.
Please continue to pray for the people of this country. Pray that resources will stretch far and be used wisely. Thank you for your generosity.
