An education in Haiti is a luxury that most cannot afford. There are few public or free schools, and the expense of uniforms, books, and tuition is beyond the grasp of the average Haitian family.
According to the CIA Factbook, half of the children in Haiti do not attend primary school, and only one in five attend secondary school.
This lack of education has led to an adult population with a literacy rate of only 53%, reinforcing generation-to-generation poverty.
All of the children at Child Hope International attend local schools, or in some cases are homeschooled or have private tutors to help them catch up with their education. It is our hope that through education, each of our children will recognize the unique talents and gifts that God has granted to them, and in turn, learn how to put them to use for His glory.
