We have very exciting news to share with you. Echeline has been reunified with her mom. Here’s how this amazing story happened.
Echeline came into our care in 2012, when she was three years old. When we asked where her parents were, we were told that they had died in the 2010 earthquake. Haitian social services is understaffed and underfunded, so that was as much information as we had.
Last fall our social worker shocked us all when he said after extensive searching that he had found Echeline’s mother was alive! Her mother was overjoyed to hear that her daughter was thriving at Child Hope. Since then, Echeline’s mother and her fiancé have visited frequently and are very excited to receive Echeline back into their home.
The family has finished a 3-month process to transition Echeline back into their home. They have completed a home assessment, found a local school ready to receive her and completed enrollment. Child Hope International’s social worker has created a plan whereby we will continue to follow up with the family to make sure Echeline is healthy and safe in her mother’s home.
Child Hope will continue to be a part of Echeline’s life. We remain committed to Echeline’s care and wellbeing. We believe that this will be best accomplished while she is living in the home of her mother who loves her and wants to be involved in her daughter’s life. Child Hope International will continue to financially support Echeline’s education and medical care, and monitor the safety of her home placement. When Echeline is older, we will provide her with opportunities for internships and work placements.
Please join us in rejoicing over this wonderful news!
