In August Daphne was reunified with her sister as a result of our Family Hope program! We believe an orphanage cannot replace the love and belonging that children find in safe and nourishing homes, which is why we are overjoyed when children can return to their families’ homes.
Daphne came to Child Hope in 2007, as her mother was not in a stable living situation and in need of help. We lost contact with Daphne’s mother until two years ago when she came to visit with Daphne. We began facilitating this relationship again after 10 years. We learned more of Daphne’s family history, including that Daphne had an older sister who was living just outside of Port Au Prince. After several assessments, home visits and discussions about reunification options, everyone (including Daphne) felt that the best living situation for Daphne would be with her sister.
Our social worker and counselor completed several visits, which included economic, psychological, and social assessments. Daphne had overnight stays at her sister’s home in preparation for this move.
In August, Daphne’s sister finished the process to transition Daphne into her home.
Child Hope remains committed to Daphne’s care and well-being. Our social worker has created an after-care plan where we will continue to follow up with the family over the first 12 months, regularly evaluating the safety and health of Daphne. Child Hope will continue supporting Daphne’s education and medical needs and will begin providing counseling services.
Please pray for Daphne and her sister as they adjust to this transition.
