In June we hosted our fourth workshop on family-based care. To date we have trained 80 social workers from across Haiti!
Our first workshop was almost a year ago, and we have been hearing that the seeds planted in the trainings have begun to bear fruit!
Ten successful reunifications have taken place between two of the orphanages we trained. The first orphanage was already interested in pursuing family reunification. CHI provided them with the theoretical and practical tools needed to successfully reunify families. The second orphanage was not clear on the concept of reunification. Our team did a private training with them where we explained and demonstrated the process of family reunification in its different stages and offered them training on trauma.
It is very likely more reunifications have taken place that we haven’t heard about yet. We try to maintain contact with our workshop attendees so we can offer help if they do begin the reunification process at their orphanages.
On top of that, two social workers reported they were able to find new jobs thanks to the certificates they received at our trainings. They are now in charge of the reunification and placement of children at an orphanage.
