Our social work team hosted a training day for parents in our Family Sponsorship program in Port-au-Prince. This was the first time we offered this training to parents, though we have previously trained Haitian social workers working in orphanages.
Because this training was designed specifically for parents, the content needed to be practical and easy to apply in daily life. While social workers approach child protection from a professional standpoint, parents needed tools they could use in their own homes, regardless of their educational background. The training focused on real-life scenarios, using role-playing, testimonies, and discussion to help parents engage with the material in a meaningful way.
The four-hour training covered key topics such as:
- Understanding what Child Protection means and why it matters
- The role and responsibility of parents in keeping children safe
- Children’s rights and how they apply in everyday life
- Positive discipline strategies to guide children with love
- How to recognize and protect children from risks and danger
One mother shared that she hopes we can offer a similar training for children, so they can be empowered by knowing their rights. Another parent said she feels more confident in how she will support her son moving forward.
Why This Training Matters
At Child Hope International, we believe that strong, supported parents are the key to keeping families together. This training is one way we equip parents with the tools and knowledge they need to raise their children in a safe, loving environment. Investing in families helps prevent unnecessary child separation and reduce the number of children entering orphanages due to poverty and lack of support.
You Make This Possible
Because of our donors, we can continue providing life-changing resources like this training. Your generosity allows us to strengthen families, advocate for children’s well-being, and create long-term solutions for keeping children out of orphanages. Thank you for being part of this work!
