This month, Child Hope International took an important step forward by joining the Working Group for Child Protection (GTPE-South) — a collaborative network of child welfare actors in southern Haiti. This group brings together representatives from IBESR (Haiti’s child welfare authority), UNICEF, and several leading NGOs.
As we expand our reach beyond Port-au-Prince, where gang control now grips nearly 85% of the city, this move represents a strategic step for our organization. The South Department offers a safer and more stable environment to strengthen partnerships and expand the impact of our Families Count program, which helps families stay together and prevents children from entering orphanages.
The recent GTPE-South meeting brought together all these partners to coordinate efforts, review ongoing child protection work, and plan upcoming priorities. The atmosphere in the room was filled with a genuine spirit of collaboration. Each organization expressed strong commitment to provide timely, effective responses for children in need.
Partner Spotlight: Overture International
We also want to celebrate the incredible work of one of our close partners, Overture International. After helping an organization close its orphanage in Les Cayes, Overture International was gifted the property. In a remarkable act of collaboration and generosity, they transferred the property to IBESR in September, creating Haiti’s first-ever Community Complex for Child Protection.
With IBESR now leading the complex, the campus will serve far more children and families than any single organization ever could. This transfer enables more partner organizations to join forces and multiply the impact for Haiti’s most vulnerable children.
