Haiti has over 750 orphanages, and approximately 80% of the children living in those orphanages have family members. We believe that God’s design is for children to be raised in families.
The goal of our Transition Support Services (TSS) program is to help orphanages in Haiti transition to family-based care.
One way to jump-start conversations with orphanages is by hosting workshops for social workers on the topic of family-based care and the reunification process. Our second workshop was held in December and saw 18 social workers in attendance. Those social workers are responsible for over 700 children! At the end of the trainings the social workers received a certificate of completion.
We have been following up with the orphanages the social workers represent to see if we can consult with them to take the next steps.
This workshop and our previous one in August 2021 were attended by nearly 40 social workers who work with over 1,700 children! We are excited to see how the TSS program has the potential to exponentially impact orphans and vulnerable children in Haiti.
