This summer two of our children – Cindy & Jean Paul – were reunified with their families as a result of our Family Hope program! We believe an orphanage cannot replace the love and belonging that children find in safe and nourishing homes, which is why we are overjoyed when children can return to their families’ homes.
Cindy came into our care in 2006. It was a difficult time for her mother and she was unable to care for Cindy. Cindy’s mother would visit from time to time and check in. In 2017 Child Hope began conversations with her mom about reunification.
Jean Paul came into our care in 2013 after the death of his mother. Unfortunately his extended family were unable to care for him at that time. In 2018 Child Hope connected with Jean Paul’s sister, who in turn connected us to his aunt and uncle. This past Christmas they visited and we began discussing the possibility of reunification.
Child Hope International’s reunification process includes home visits; economic, psychological, and social assessments of all members of the household; overnight stays for the child; and counseling for the child and family. All reunifications are approved by IBESR, the Haitian social services department.
In July, after completing the reunification steps, Jean Paul and Cindy went home.
Child Hope will continue to be a part of Cindy & Jean Paul’s lives! We remain committed to their care and well-being and will continue to monitor the safety of their home placements. Child Hope International will also continue to support their education and medical care. Cindy will continue her internship, which was secured through our Future Hope program, and when Jean Paul is older, he too will be eligible for internship opportunities and work placements.
