On March 20th, the government of Haiti announced the first official cases of COVID-19 in Haiti and implemented measures to limit its spread. Schools, factories, and other businesses are closed until further notice. Gatherings larger than 10 people have been banned, a curfew is in place and borders are closed.
For a country like Haiti, which has high population density in cities but does not have adequate medical facilities, this virus could be devastating.
We know that for many, this pandemic is causing fear, anxiety, confusion, and more. We are acknowledging these realities, but are also praying that our faith overshadow our fears. We are trusting in a God who has promised to not leave or forsake us. God has again and again been faithful and merciful to the ministry of Child Hope International, and we are leaning on Him now.
At Child Hope International, we have new policies and practices in place to protect against the virus.
We have been educating staff and children about what coronavirus is, how it is transmitted, and proper hand washing techniques.
We are stocked up on supplies and the staff have stepped up cleaning around the homes. We are continuing to seek guidance and evaluate our measures in light of updates.
The kids are doing well. Over the past 2 years, they have experienced “shelter in place” and lock down multiple times from protests and instability. Yes, things are hectic (see the picture of children whacking one another with pool noodles!), but we are surviving. Please keep our children and staff in your prayers!
