Family Again

Schneider is a Child Hope graduate and current employee.  He recently shared his family story with us.

When he was a child, Schneider lived with his mom, grandma, and sisters.  One day, his dad came and took him away from the rest of his family.  Schneider lived with his dad for 6 years, but didn’t like the way his dad treated him, so he decided to run away.

Shortly after finding himself all alone, he met a boy who became like a brother to him.  The boy said he thought they should go live at an orphanage because it would be safer than being on their own, so they did.  Unfortunately, that was not a safe situation either.  The Haitian government shut down that orphanage for ill treatment of the children, and it was that time that Schneider was brought to Child Hope International.

Schneider said he wanted to reconnect with his family, but it was not until 2010, when he graduated from Child Hope, that he really began looking for them.  “Cuz home still home, family still family.  I wish I get to know them more, especially mom and all my sisters,” he explained.  With the help of a friend, he was able to find his sister, who then helped him find his mom.  He says that now he has a good relationship with his sisters and mom, and is even working on his relationship with his dad.  He knows he has at least 2 brothers he has never met, but he hopes to soon.

Our desire is that through our Family Hope program, we will come to know more beautiful stories of family reconciliation like Schneider’s.
