Visit to the North

Our social workers and pastor made a visit to one of our families in the North Department. They live in a very remote area where electricity, internet, and cell reception are not always available. The team traversed dirt roads in bad condition before making it to the family’s house.

When they got there they were greeted by a happy family – two teenage girls, their mother, and stepfather. The social workers assessed the family across several domains including health, education, psycho/social, spiritual and finances. There were many positive reports:

  • One of the teens had reported a skin irritation several months ago. It was so bad it was keeping her from school. Thanks to our Family Sponsors, she was able to receive treatment for it, and on this visit she said it has completely cleared up!
  • Both teen girls were struggling in school. In February we hired a tutor. The social workers visited the principal of the school and were told both students had passed their classes and were being promoted to the next grade.
  • The daughters are trying to teach their mother how to read!

Our pastor prayed with the family, gave them encouragement, and also gave them a couple of Bibles.

There are a few domains from the assessment that our team would like to see improved. The social workers and pastor will continue to check in with the family regularly to monitor the progress.

Overall it was a great visit!
